Summary

Research engineer with 16+ years of continuous work at the DLR ZLP Augsburg on the data-substrate problem of full-scale composite manufacturing. Lead author of the peer-reviewed Shepard architecture paper of record (DLRK 2021). Architect of the iDMS research-data prototype (2017–2020), its predecessor critique line (PRAESTO / KIBID / ProDES), and the open-source Shepard substrate (2021–present). Generalist across robotics process automation, composite manufacturing, distributed data systems, and AI-collaborative research method. Group leader.

Current role

Leader, Flexible Automation Systems Group — DLR Institute of Structures and Design, ZLP Augsburg. Deputy Head of Department. 2009-10 to present.

Experience

Period Role
2009-10 – present DLR Institute of Structures and Design, ZLP Augsburg — Leader of Flexible Automation Systems Group; Deputy Head of Department
2008-04 – 2009-09 KUKA Roboter GmbH, Augsburg — Industrial year at the robotics vendor whose KR-series robots later anchor every MFZ / FPC / T-AFP cell at ZLP
2007-10 – 2008-03 Studentische Hilfskraft, Lehrstuhl für Multimedia-Konzepte und Anwendungen, Universität Augsburg — paid tutorial assistant at the chair where the Diplomarbeit lab work was based
2005-04 – 2008-03 Student lab contributor (volunteer + later paid), same chair — multi-agent robotics framework: developed the server components; independently built an interactive simulation environment for hardware-free testing of robot-control intelligence

Per ORCID employment record + primary-source Empfehlungsschreiben by Dr. M.E. Müller (2008).

Education

Diplom-Informatiker (Angewandte Informatik / Applied Computer Science) — Universität Augsburg, 2002–2008. Pre-Bologna 5-year German Diplom. Nebenfach: Philosophy (Logik / Sprachphilosophie, Erkenntnistheorie / Kognitionswissenschaften, Philosophie des Geistes, Ethik / Praktische Philosophie).

Diplomarbeit (24 May 2008, advisor Dr. Martin Eric Müller, Lehrstuhl für Multimedia-Konzepte und Anwendungen, Univ. Augsburg) — Entwicklung eines Systems zur Implementierung von Layered Module Architekturen (PARIA). A modular reactive-agent runtime in Java 1.6, grounded in Rodney Brooks’s Subsumption Architecture (1986), with first-class Layered Module Architectures as the original contribution (strong typing, arbitrary module functions, immediate inhibition / suppression). The runtime includes a setSnapshotBehavior(...) API on the architecture root and propagated + instant Snapshot primitives — a precursor to provenance-by-snapshot design choices that recur in the present shepard work.
